Smart Access to the Former Hotta Residence
Rental Bicycles are Highly Recommended
The Former Hotta Residence is about a 20-minute walk from JR Sakura Station or Keisei Sakura Station. While walkable, we strongly recommend using a **rental bicycle** to easily combine your visit with other nearby attractions like the Samurai Houses and Sakura Castle Park.
You can rent a bicycle at tourist information centers near the stations for just 500 yen a day (1,000 yen for an e-bike).
The Golden Route from the Samurai Houses
Most international visitors start their trip at the famous Samurai Houses. From there, the Hotta Residence is a quick 5-10 minute bike ride. Cycling through the quiet residential streets, which still retain their Edo-period widths, is a fantastic local experience in itself.
💡 Cycling Tip: The entrance to the residence is slightly hidden. Look for the “Sakura Koseien” sign, head into the free parking lot (bicycle parking available), and you will find the main gate at the back.
