Not a Replica: Experiencing ‘Real History’
Many ‘Samurai houses’ in tourist spots across Japan are actually newly built replicas for tourism. However, the three Bukeyashiki in Sakura City are **authentic historical buildings** constructed during the late Edo period.
From the scratches on the pillars to the cold earth floor (doma) and the view of the garden from the wooden veranda (engawa), this is a very rare place where you can feel the exact atmosphere of a samurai’s daily life.

A Real Immersive Experience: Take Off Your Shoes
The best feature is that you don’t just look from the outside—you can actually take off your shoes, step onto the tatami mats, and walk around inside the rooms. Sitting on the engawa looking at the lush garden will make you feel like you’ve time-traveled to the samurai era.
